Synopsis

“I am a man and a soldier, not a knight in shining armor!” The army is no place for a woman of gentle birth, of that Charlotte Lacoste is aware. But if she is to find her fiancé she must cross the Alps with Napoleon's army. And she knows only one man who can protect her on the journey: Captain Marc Forestier, notorious for his temper and his womanizing. At first, traveling under his protection she lives in fear of him, but soon she begins to understand his bitterness, and to dread their arrival at the battleground in Lombardy where, one way or another, she knows she must lose him.
