It is 1942. Four years after Julia's return to normal life from almost twenty-four years in the county asylum, Tremar has become a convalescent home for officers for the duration of the war. In the beginning, everything is Julia has both her beloved husband Matt and the beautiful Annie, for whom she and Matt committed murder. But Annie has taken a shine to a heavily disfigured young airman, and Julia harbors grave suspicions about his family.
