Synopsis

In the spring of 1866, governess Anne Graham, orphaned by her mother's sudden death, leaves London in search of family ties and a new life in Almondbury, the village near Huddersfield where her mother grew up. Her love of John Brook, a local craftsman, brings her into conflict with Isabel Blezard, the wife of a mill-owner, who proves to be a fearsome enemy. Discoveries, both painful and joyous, await Anne of Almondbury in this romantic novel set amongst the mills and farms of mid-Victorian Yorkshire.
