Jen Delazzeri never expected to see Max Rickman again after the end of their brief, intense affair. They were young, he had just lost his fianceé in a fire, and he told Jen he didn't love her. All good reasons for Jen to keep their daughter a secret for thirteen years. Now they're together again on fire duty--Max as a smoke jumper and Jen as a reporter--and Max wants to spend time with his daughter and wants Jen to help investigate what went wrong during the long ago tragedy that ended his fianceé's life.
