Barbara Cooper has recently been widowed at the shockingly early age of 42. She lives in the idyllic village of Texbury on a green known as Birch Common, but life for Barbara is grey and meaningless at present. Things look up when, visiting London, she has a chance encounter with Bryan Payne, who kindly rescues her after a fall in the street. He's a travel courier and specialises in escorting guided tours of India. This lights a spark in Barbara's imagination. Can she trust him? Dare she love again?
