Synopsis

This is a fictional story set in the historic 1800's. The reader will be introduced to several generations of the Chettsburg family who grew up in Belgium. Joseph and Elizabeth's only child, Charles, makes his way to America to study and practice law. Years later, his parents move to the sunny south to be with their son, his wife Lara, and granddaughter Missy. Each generation is represented in an unique way in which deal with family, friends, careers and ongoing life struggles. Charles purchases a family farm for his father, Joseph. Elizabeth opens a chocolate shop and tea room established in the local town. A teenaged Missy is inspired to be a teacher. On the family farm she conducts school for the laborers' children who normally would not have access to a formal education. In her late teen, Missy becomes pregnant and discretely gives birth to an interracial baby girl. The event is a bit morally controversial. The mother is not married nor does she want her immediate family to find out about the pregnancy. Through some unexpected circumstances the pregnancy is concealed but not for long. One clever character stumbles upon some interesting facts about the newborn. Surprisingly, the secret is kept quiet from most of the folks. Later, the deception is released at the most unexpected moment in a very unusual way.
