Synopsis

She had no opinion of marriage or of men, but was she proof against true love? Clara Mantell is clever, beautiful, and a determined flirt, but the last thing she desires is a husband. To her mind, marriage only destroys a woman's independence, and she would far rather retain her freedom to even up the playing field between men and women. Retiring with her family to Bath for the winter, Clara embarks on a campaign to humble and mortify the most dangerous rakes she can find. But when her plan backfires, she begins to understand just how foolish she has been, and just how susceptible even her cold heart is to breaking.
