Miranda Sadere is beautiful, talented, and chained to the skeletons in her closet. They won't leave her, and she can't let go. And the nightmares are coming more frequently. Needing to get away, she goes on a long vacation with her best friend Jonathan Clemens, thanks to Jonathan's fiancée who called it quits just days before their wedding. The two friends go to Tahiti, and on the journey Miranda meets the handsome language teacher Ari Taor, who is instantly smitten with her. Ari, with stars in his eyes, eagerly pursues Miranda, but her secret won't let him in. He stirs inside her a new feeling she is not sure she can handle, something foreign yet wonderful. And with the unwitting help of Atea, Ari's enigmatic great-great-grandmother, Miranda learns to confront the demons of her past, and she slowly opens up to Ari and everything he has to offer under the Tahitian sun.
