Synopsis

Synopsis -When she discovers the old painting hidden away in the attic. Flavia Drake finds at once that the sweet inescapably sad expression upon the face of the woman whom it depicts speaks of some past tragedy. It is a tragedy which her instinct tells her, is to haunt her own life, and especially her relationship with Richard Sherwood, who becomes her lover, and with Nigel, the younger brother whom he so much dislikes. Flavia little realizes, however, the true nature of the story, nor how poignantly it will affect her own life. This is the story of a woman who discovers, almost too late, that pity and affection are no substitutes for true love, and who when true love at last comes to her, is forced by painful circumstances to deny her own heart. It is the story of how, her feelings deeply involved, she lives through many heartbreaking months, until her love is at last fulfilled and she finds happiness. A tense and moving novel of passionate love, it will please all Sonia Dean’s many admirers.
