Synopsis

The first in a series of three novels, Free The College Years, takes us on a journey of college activism, friendship, and romance. Book 1 highlights the truth of campus racism and how students begin their social justice involvement. Chris and Nina are the Martin Luther and Coretta Scott King of campus activism. However, their interests often collide along gender lines. Chris is all about Black people, their rights, and confronting the racist institution; Nina wants Black women to be included in the mix. This rival often affects their relationship and friendship. When Nina is arrested, it’s the beginning of a complicated fate that will haunt her into the future, and Chris must decide whether he will help Free Nina or pursue his own ambitions. Meanwhile, Chris has his demons to deal with that he will either succumb to or overcome. Free The College Years is just a taste, a touch, a foreshadow of the full story that’s yet to come. It moves from the college campus to the city streets where there are bigger issues to tackle, ultimately leading to demonstrations against the Rockefeller Drug Laws that incarcerated and destroyed so many Black families in New York City during the 1980s and `90s.
