Synopsis

At the end of book 2 'To Have and To Hold, - the McKenzie family were waiting for an announcement of yet another member of the McKenzie tribe to take a walk down the aisle to be joined in Holy Matrimony to one Professor Charles Fitzroy Blossom, a lecturer at Cambridge University, to Katherine Elizabeth McKenzie Ph.D.; lecturer at UCNY America. Circumstances change and Kate returns to the USA and Charles goes off to Nepal on a quest for his university to lead a group to do an update on the Flora and Fauna in the area, leaving without an estimated time for his return. The story starts with Kate flying to Boston to join Harvey Rutherford-Harris and his family for Thanksgiving. The visit lasts less than three hours, when due to an appalling breach of good manners by Harvey's paternal Grandfather. Kate gives the miscreant a lecture which he and his companions are not likely to forget in a hurry. She returns to New York and decides to return home to Brackonfield, for two reasons. The first, because it is time to stop running away because of Jamie Tallington; and two which is very important, to find one absent professor Charles Fitzroy Blossom. I'll give myself six months in England, then go to Nepal and bring him home or marry the man out there. Kate arrives back in the UK on 22nd December to a rapturous reception by all the family, but the feeling of seasonal good cheer and goodwill to all men doesn't last long. On the evening of Christmas day, Kate is summoned by her Great Aunt Grace to go with all speed to a house in Cambridge City where the family is in great need of her help. While this doesn't affect the McKenzie family, this is just the start of a series of events that will culminate with Christopher McKenzie being admitted to Addenbrooke's hospital fighting for his life.
