It was Dain Ransome’s skill as a lecturer on a riveting subject that had fired Kerin with the idea of joining an expedition to the Antarctic, not the man himself he had struck her as a particularly unpleasant mixture of arrogance and icy coldness, totally uninterested in humanity the female side of it especially and enthusiastic only about the desolate icy wastes where he spent so much of his time.
