Honor Brownell has always loved Paul Cartright, the San Francisco lawyer for whom she works. But it is a fruitless love, for Paul is married to a woman who will never divorce him. Heartbroken, Honor decides never to see Paul again. For five years Honor lives with hurt and loneliness. Then slowly she begins to recover, becomes a successful writer and comes to love the son of her publisher. Suddenly, Paul returns—free at last to marry her—and forces Honor to make the most critical decision of her life. Should she risk her new-found and hard-won happiness in the hope of recapturing an old dream?
