The Glasgow ballroom is where Rose and Helen escape from their wartime existence, and where each meets her first love. For Helen it is army captain Johnnie Dignam; Rose's suitor is warm-hearted Frankie Aarensen from Chicago. Years later, old friendships are renewed, and old loves rekindled.
