When Sir Guy Woodville dies, his son Carson, takes responsibility for the Woodville fortunes and family. But the estate is deep in debt, his wilful stepmother has taken up with an apparently wealthy baronet, and Connie - whom Carson jilted - has returned, the mistress of a fortune.
