Synopsis

Jemima knew that Viscount Ockley was only marrying her because he had been jilted by her cousin, Niobe. Now that she had run away, Jemima no longer cared. She could not go on being beaten by her uncle and made so desperately unhappy. Marriage to a Regency Buck with expensive tastes, mounting debts, a shabby house in Berkeley Square and his country seat, Ockley Abbey, left to rats, ruin and rust, was to tax all Jemima's resourcefulness.
