Synopsis

In Book Four of the "Louisa Saga," Mrs. Louisa Wilton LeBois, now the mother of seven, embarks on a dangerous teaching slaves to read in a a state and at a time it was not legal. Her husband's passion for the cotton gin he manufactures is second only to his love for his wife and children. In his ambition to obtain a patent and expand his business, he takes financial risks which Louisa discovers could result in forfeiting their home and the family slaves. She awakens from her complacency and takes action. Will she endanger the sacred family life that she and her husband lovingly built? What will happen to the slaves whom they have known for decades and have come to cherish?
