A young Black couple in the 1940s South, DeLois and Charles face the daily challenges of both the Great Depression and unflinching racism, along with the anxiety brought by Europe's slow fall to the Nazis. On the seeming cusp of World War II, they find strength in their families, friends, and faith in God, and with it, the courage to step into this unwelcoming world and walk fully into their lives together.
