A mythical journey rekindles an old flame, but threatens to engulf the lovers in a wildfire. The Union Pacific has just cut its way across the Great Plains to Promontory, Utah. For the first time travelers can easily move from one end of the country to the other. But the new rail line doesn’t mean travel is easy—or safe.
