Synopsis

Nina, anxious to save her marriage to Charles, wants to stop the rot before it's too late. Charles, refusing to admit that there is anything wrong, tells Nina to stop imagining problems. But there is her step-brother, Duncan Stevens -- easy-going and artistic, everything that Charles is not. Charles' sister-in-law likens divorce to a mere game of chess -- yet the effect of a tragic death, seven years previously, triggers off a happening of such magnitude that Nina faces the truth at last.
