By upbringing, Stevie had been carefully sheltered from the 'steamy side' of life, and when she started work at a hospital in a seaport town she found herself in a world that sometimes shocked and frequently puzzled her. But with all the setbacks she knew for certain that she had found work that was fascinating and rewarding. Among the patients whom she helped to care for, there was a young sailor who found a place in her sympathetic heart, but there was also a dark-haired young doctor who did not intend to be left out of the picture.
