KJ Melville's debut novel, The Oddstock Folk, is the first in a two-part series. The story begins with Honor Montfort moving from the south of England for a change of scenery and to break free from a confining relationship that she knows isn't right for her. She moves with her job, but her heart feels drawn to the rural beauty of central Scotland and the quirky, warm-hearted people who call the town of Oddstock home. Honor's arrival sparks friendly gossip and much interest, but this new girl also catches the admiring eyes of Oddstock's single young men, especially Matthew Hamilton and Danny McGregor. Honor is drawn to both in different ways, but she can't deny the deeply fulfilling love she feels growing in her heart for one. Does he feel the same way? Is he just the strong silent type, or is it love she sees in his eyes when she catches him gazing at her? Honor quickly befriends Ellie Brown, a vivacious imperturbable brunette who keeps things fun and is always ready for a good chat and a laugh, and she comes to understand Clare, whose life is so different from Honor's, but whose stoic grace establishes a true bond of friendship between them. Come along with Honor, Ellie, Clare, Danny, Matthew and many more of the Oddstock folk as they search for love, loyal friendship and the meaning of true Christianity.
