Layla meets Keyvan, a struggling artist, and falls in love with him. But Layla's family have plans for her to marry a wealthy young man from a good family. Layla and Keyvan meet in secret, afraid of being discovered by the komiteh, the morality police. When Keyvan proposes to Layla, she decides to tell her parents about their relationship. But then Sara, her cousin, is arrested at a raid on a teenage party and is held for questioning because of her family's dissident past. She is finally freed, but with devastating consequences for Layla and her family. Beneath the polished surface of middle class Iranian life lies pain, fear and dark, dark secrets.
