Tilman Hunter has no job, no money, no prospects, and no big plans on how to turn things around, but things are about to change. And change quickly. A near death experience with a black bear, a new relationship with local Forest Ranger and Army Vet Poppy McIninch, and a weird encounter with a probable drug dealer in his own home , Tilman accepts the challenge to investigate the death of his father from ten years ago and to write the story that answers his most important question, how did his father Robbie Hunter die and should someone be sitting in jail for his death. His dad had spent his entire career searching for his big “White Whale Story” that would climax his journalistic career in Central Maine. Will Tilman discover it is time to say goodbye to the ghost of his father and that no Pulitzer will be in his immediate future or will his obsessive investigation into his dad’s death, the dysfunctional relationship with his mother and the interactions with quirky small-town characters like Fat Harold, Lorraine and Tweedie have him writing the White Whale Story his father never had the opportunity to write. Only time will tell how it all shakes out.
