Berlin 1939: Ted McDowell is a foreign correspondent whose former love for the German capital has turned sour since he has seen what the Nazis have done to it. One day, he treats a half-starved Jewish woman to lunch. He little realizes that this small act of kindness will change his life beyond recognition.
