Synopsis
A surgeon's daughter just crawled into my lap and begged me not to let anyone take her. I’m a janitor at a hospital, and I just found her asleep on his office couch. I was cleaning off his desk when I heard a small voice say, “Are you my daddy’s friend?” She was curled up under his jacket, eyes barely open, and I could tell she’d been crying. I sat down next to her and she crawled into my lap without asking, buried her face in my shirt, and fell back asleep almost instantly. Suddenly, the office door opened and a woman stepped in and gave me a smug look. She looked at me and said, “Hand her to me. NOW.” The little girl’s arms tightened around my neck and she whispered in my ear, “Please don’t let her take me.”
