Cassie Moon is a musician who’s spent most of the last decade busking across the continental United States. If you can strum a guitar and earn a few bucks, she’s probably been there. New York and its music scene were the dream, but it didn’t take long to learn that the Big Apple isn’t kind to dreamers. Instead of selling out stadiums, she’s tending a dive bar and singing to a few followers on YouTube. Karaoke night is the only chance she has to flex her vocal chops in front of a live audience, but talent scouts don’t hang out in NYC dive bars looking for off-key renditions of popular karaoke tracks. Until they do. Malachi Verin is a record executive and music producer. He’s also a thousand-year-old leanansidhe, looking for the next creative soul he can foster – and then feed on to fuel his own immortality. He lives by one cardinal rule: don’t fall in love, but that’s sometimes easier said than done when a faerie contract binds him so tightly to his prey. When his last prospect falls victim to the internet age and cancel culture, he finds himself scrambling to procure a replacement – or a bar open in the middle of the afternoon he could drown his sorrows in. One karaoke night later, he’s offering to make all of Cassie’s dreams come true. There’s always a catch. Chasing her dreams might cost Cassie her life, but making them come true might cost Malachi his heart.
