'It's silly for us to treat one another like strangers; Shelley told Ben Seton when they met again. He claimed that he had fallen in love with her years ago, but surely his feelings for her then had been pure infatuation? How could it be anything else when she was older and had more experience of the world than he had? But now Ben was assured and attractive, a man who knew exactly what he wanted.
