Synopsis

Pretty Gwen Fenton abruptly quit her job and rushed to the Massachusetts seashore when she inherited a cottage there. Eager to escape her mother's grasping love, she felt strangely drawn to that charming old cottage in Letheport—and to the charming young men of the town, especially playful Stuart Rhodes and his serious friend, Alfred Jennings. But from the start, Gwen was warned against staying at the cottage. She was upset by the perverse events that seemed to make the place unlivable. And she feared she would never solve the deep mysteries that suddenly enmeshed her. Yet before the summer was over, many things became clear to Gwen as she made some startling discoveries about herself, her past, and most of all about love.
