Three go-getting women will do whatever it takes to make their dreams come true. At La Scala in Milan, soprano Cosima wows the audience while, behind the curtain, her marriage to her fellow opera star Nolan falls apart. On the same night, private banker Juliet embarks on an affair with her boss. And in a council house in London, Mercy swots for her GCSE music exam. Five years later, Cosima must sing once more on the same stage as her ex-husband - and finds that she may still have feelings for him. Juliet has been sacked, but is determined to get back on track, whatever it takes. And Mercy is now an office cleaner, but is desperate to become an opera singer.
