Bess could steal before she could walk. And loved Daniel before she could steal. Daniel chose her life for her: to dance, and leave him behind. Now he wants her help to catch a killer, and she still wants him. Bess has never been ashamed of what she could do. It was Daniel who always lectured: don't vault that wall, Bess, don't pick that pocket, don't live that life. He decided she should dance, not steal. He decided her life should be on the stage, and that she should look for someone to marry who wasn’t him. Now he thinks she'll pretend to be a fine young lady, to trap one of London's deadliest villains. He also thinks Bess would be better off without him. He always has. But Bess has a mind of her own, and Daniel Fox is about to hear what she thinks.
