After her rich, older husband dies in a boating accident, Karen Armitage takes a job as a waitress, hoping to forget the past. There she meets regular client Andrew Knight who, it is reputed, will only marry for money. He helps Karen to regain her confidence and overcome her fear of water, but she is haunted by the thought that he's interested only in her wealth. At a charity fair in the grounds of her lovely, old home, Karen will finally learn the truth.
