Synopsis

This is the story of Shanne Gregg, a girl born and brought up in a changing Ireland, at the turn of the century and on to the First World War. She is the daughter of a country doctor and she nurses British soldiers in the Convalescent Home of Screebogue, but there have also been the wounded curlews of a nation, reaching for its destiny. They had come in the darkness of the night, tapping on the window for help at the doctor's house and never turned away. Then there is Gareth Chandos, a descendant of The Wild Geese from the Siege of Limerick, hundreds of years before. Perhaps he is looking both ways too, seeking for an end to the unwinding corner. Perhaps they find happiness together in each other, and maybe their problem is solved, but the straight road is still elusive.
