Synopsis
Reynaud St. Aubyn escapes after seven hellish years as a captive of the Wyandot Indians in the Colonies and now has one purpose: to take revenge on the traitor who put him there. Beatrice Corning manages her uncle's various homes and attends boring dances and none of the callow youths available engage her interest. At least not like the painting of the mysterious Reynaud St. Aubyn, who was tragically killed seven years ago. Imagine her shock when one dark night, Beatrice answers the door only to have Reynaud St. Aubyn in the flesh, collapsing at her feet. The survivors of the Spinner's Falls massacre believe Reynaud was the traitor. To solidify his position, Reynaud decides to marry Beatrice - and the fastest way to do that is to seduce her. After a night of passion, Beatrice agrees to marry Reynaud. She knows he doesn't love her but she has faith that her love can turn him toward good instead of destruction. When Sam and Sir Alistair arrive in London, the four survivors of the massacre are together again and they vow to help Reynaud find the real traitor.
