When fearless warrior Lynx de Warenne invades the Dumfries castle of Jane Leslie, he is desperate for an heir. Soon he proposes a a Scottish custom whereby a man lawfully takes a woman into his bed, and after a year and a day the couple can either wed or part, but any child of their short union will be legitimate. Jane has no choice but to surrender to her invader's desires, but soon Warenne is also surrendering—to love.
