The Civil War has been over for twenty years when Claire Parkins leaves her abusive, domineering husband and returns to the "Circle P," the vast cattle ranch where she grew up. Her beloved grandfather has left the ranch to her in his will, but Claire finds that everything has changed since she's been back east, in Chicago. In an insatiable lust for land and wealth, greedy cattle baron, Linus Thacker, has already driven away most of the other settlers and small ranchers. Now, he sets out to ruin Claire, who owns the only free-running source of water for miles around -- Vengeance Creek. Alone, close to broke, and totally ignorant about running a ranch, Claire reluctantly accepts help from childhood friend and former ranch-owner, Luke Campbell, who has his own deadly score to settle with Thacker. The two old friends clash, though, when it comes to which one of them will make the rules in their battle with Thacker. Claire has vowed never to let another man be her master, even one as attractive as Luke. And Luke isn't about to take orders from a stubborn, big-city greenhorn when he's risking his life -- even if he is falling in love with her. Claire soon discovers that Luke has a very direct way of settling arguments, and of keeping her out of danger when she just won't listen to reason. He turns her over his knee for a hard, no-nonsense spanking! You’ll love this Western Romance novel from fan-favorite author Judith McLaren! Mature subject matter for adults only. 52,614 words
