'A haunting tale of love and belonging' Patrick Hegarty, elder son of farmer Joseph and Mary Ann, has no intention of carrying on the farming tradition. He sets off for Scotland to work with the navvies, but an encounter with a stone wall leaves him with a broken ankle. Nursed back to health by beautiful young Kate Kinard, the pair fall in love and are married without delay. But husband Patrick is a very different proposition from the romantic youth who courted her.
